Appeal
It is that time of year when we sincerely thank those of you who have generously donated and sponsored so many of the functions held over the past year at the Vishnu Shiva Mandir. It is also the time to send a gentle reminder that the end of the financial year is fast approaching, and the Mandir, depending as it does on the community’s support, looks up to you.
The Mandir unceasingly promotes the cause of Sanatana Dharma in the National Capital and serves as a link to our ancient culture and traditions in this foreign land. Besides daily rituals and regular pujas, all major functions covering the rich and diverse traditions of our land are being celebrated in a grand manner at the Mandir with Annadana. Even the community’s needs as varied as realising the self, promoting the arts, doing one’s religious duties, knowledge-sharing and bodily well-being are catered for by the spiritual retreats, lectures, cultural programs, weddings, samskaras, yoga and Veda classes that are held at the Mandir. In short, the Mandir is the repository of all that is good for the body, mind and soul, for the present and for the future generations.
In the past year the Mandir has championed the cause of the environment by installing solar panels on the roof, committing us to use renewable energy as far as possible. We also take this opportunity to thank all Mandir devotees who supported the solar renewable energy project which was completed last year and is currently in operation.Besides, as far as ritualistic aspects are concerned, the Mandir has acquired new utsav moorthys and plans are in train to acquire further adornments and enhancements.
There are upgrades planned for the kitchen and Vedanta Hall area to accommodate the burgeoning needs of the community. The original kitchen and Vedanta Hall, a design dating back to 1994, has met our needs for 20 years, but of late has become simply inadequate. The plans for an upgraded kitchen area have to take in not just the basic cooking and storage considerations, but also that of enhanced seating, quicker serving and weather protection. A tentative cost estimate for the kitchen upgrade is in the range of $50,000, and ideally we would like to have it done before the festive season begins later this year.
We invite devotees to donate generously at this time of the year and help the Mandir fulfil its noble aims. Giving generously – dhaana – without thought of reward is prescribed in our scriptures, but multifold divine blessings in unseen ways will accrue to the donor, no doubt.
All donations are treated as tax deductible in that the amount you donate can be deducted from your taxable income on which you have to pay tax.
Please remember to put “Donation – Your Name” in the transaction details field.
Please make sure you ask for the appropriate receipt to claim the tax deduction. Donations can be made electronically from your account to:
